New Delhi, 18th October, 2025:
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an extensive forecast and series of warnings as multiple weather systems are active over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal. A well-marked low-pressure area over the southeast Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep region, coupled with other cyclonic circulations across the peninsula, is expected to bring widespread rainfall and thunderstorm activity over several parts of the country in the coming days.
Weather Systems in Effect
According to IMD, under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over the southeast Arabian Sea and adjoining Lakshadweep area, a low-pressure area has formed and intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area by Saturday morning (October 18). The system is likely to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression within the next 36 hours.
Additionally, a cyclonic circulation persists over the Gulf of Mannar, while another has formed over the south Andaman Sea and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal, where a fresh low-pressure area is likely to develop around October 21, which may intensify into a depression over the central and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal subsequently.
A trough line also extends between these systems, influencing weather conditions across southern and eastern India.
