New AYUSH Medical College Approved in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj

CNB WORLD TIMES

Bhubaneswar: The Government of India has approved the establishment of a new AYUSH educational institution in Odisha under the National AYUSH Mission (NAM) during the financial year 2025-26.

The Government Ayurvedic Medical College, Mayurbhanj has been approved based on a proposal submitted by the Government of Odisha through the State Annual Action Plan (SAAP).

Public Health is a State subject, and the primary responsibility for establishing new AYUSH educational institutions rests with the respective State and Union Territory Governments. However, the Centre provides financial assistance under the Centrally Sponsored Scheme of National AYUSH Mission where government AYUSH teaching institutions are inadequate.

Under the scheme, financial support is provided for establishing AYUSH colleges, including infrastructure, attached hospitals and essential equipment. Priority is given to areas where access to AYUSH education and healthcare facilities remains limited, including rural, remote and underserved regions.

States and Union Territories can seek assistance by submitting suitable proposals through their SAAPs in accordance with NAM guidelines.

The approval of the Government Ayurvedic Medical College in Mayurbhanj is expected to strengthen AYUSH education and traditional healthcare infrastructure in Odisha.
