Cyclone Arnab Live Updates: Landfall Complete, Odisha on High Alert
CNB WORLD TIMES
Cyclone Arnab Live Updates: Severe cyclonic storm Arnab completed its landfall along the Andhra Pradesh coast between Kakinada and Yanam early Wednesday, bringing strong winds, heavy rainfall and widespread disruption. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said the storm crossed the coast between 2 am and 8 am, with sustained wind speeds of 125–135 kmph and gusts reaching 150 kmph.
The cyclone, which weakened from a very severe cyclonic storm to a severe cyclonic storm, was moving northwestwards at around 3 kmph. According to the IMD, it is expected to continue moving north-northwestwards over the next 48 hours and weaken gradually into a cyclonic storm within six hours, followed by a deep depression over the subsequent six hours.
Storm Surge Warning for Coastal Areas
The IMD warned that a storm surge of 1.5–2.5 metres above the astronomical tide could inundate low-lying coastal areas, particularly around Kakinada and Yanam. Residents in vulnerable locations have been advised to remain indoors and follow official safety instructions.
The cyclone caused damage across several parts of Andhra Pradesh. Trees were uprooted and power lines snapped at multiple locations in Kakinada. In Visakhapatnam, heavy rain and strong winds brought down trees, blocking Beach Road and parts of Seethammadhara.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to clear fallen trees, restore access to blocked roads, address waterlogging and respond to damage to essential infrastructure. Authorities have urged people to stay away from electric poles, hoardings, damaged structures and old trees until conditions improve.
IMD Issues Severe Weather Warning for Odisha
As Cyclone Arnab weakens and moves inland, Odisha remains on alert for heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds. The IMD has warned of extremely heavy rain at isolated places in Gajapati, Ganjam, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri districts. These areas may also experience thunderstorms, lightning and surface winds of 60–80 kmph, with gusts reaching 90 kmph.
An orange warning has been issued for Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Puri, Khordha, Sonepur, Boudh and Nayagarh. Heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and winds of 40–50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, are likely in these districts.
A yellow warning is in place for Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Angul, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghapur and Cuttack. Isolated heavy rainfall, thunderstorms and winds of 30–40 kmph, with gusts of up to 50 kmph, are expected.
Safety Advisory
Residents in cyclone- and rain-affected areas should follow IMD bulletins and instructions issued by local authorities. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from flooded roads and fallen power lines, and remain indoors during periods of strong winds and thunderstorms.
Cyclone Arnab Live Updates: While landfall is complete, the risk of heavy rainfall, strong winds and localised flooding continues across affected areas of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha. Residents should remain alert until weather conditions improve.
