Bhadrak, Odisha | July 18: Chandbali College in the Bhadrak District of Odisha, conducted an Orientation Programme on Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace: Prevention, Prohibition, and Redressal(POSH Act, 2013) on 16th July 2025, organized by the Internal Complaints Committee(ICC).
Principal Shri Sanjieeb Kumar Behura addressed the gathering and emphasized the importance of ensuring a safe and secure environment for women employees and girl students. “During my tenure, I assure you that no woman will face harassment or any difficulties on campus. If such incidents occur, strict action will be taken as per government guidelines,” he stated.
Shri Chandan Das, Head of the Department of Political Science, elaborated on the UGC-POSH Act 2013, explaining the concept of sexual harassment, its forms, and the three major dimensions of such misconduct. He encouraged girl students to raise complaints without fear in case of any misbehavior or harassment.
Shri Mayadhar Mohanty, Head of the Chemistry Department, stressed the importance of dignity and safety for girls on campus and advised them to focus on their studies rather than social media distractions.
Dr. Swarnalata Panda, Head of Sociology, spoke on how sexual harassment deeply impacts women and discussed the role of patriarchal norms in perpetuating gender injustice.
Ms. Manasi Mohini Mallik, ICC member, explained how to approach the committee and file a genuine complaint. Mr. Nimain Charan Mohanty, Demonstrator in Biology and ICC member, emphasized creating a harassment-free, student-centric campus.
Faculty members including Mr. Nihar Ranjan Sahoo, Mr. Raju Barman, Mr. Karunakar Jena, and Others were present, along with all undergraduate students. Mr. Barman also suggested minimizing inquiry timelines to ensure prompt resolution.
The program concluded with a formal vote of thanks by Mr. Chandan Das.
