Jharkhand: PM Modi and CM Hemant Soren Express Grief Over Khunti Road Mishap

Khunti, Jharkhand: Seven people, including three children, were killed and one person injured after an 18-wheel truck ran over a group of people while negotiating a sharp turn on the Karra-Torpa main road in Jharkhand's Khunti district on Thursday night, police said on Friday.

According to police, the incident occurred when a scooter rider fell into a roadside ditch, prompting several people to rush to the spot to help. Several women and children also gathered near the road to witness the incident.

Khunti Superintendent of Police (SP) Rishabh Garg said that an 18-wheel truck coming from the Torpa side ran over the people while taking a sharp turn. The driver might not have noticed the crowd due to darkness, the officer said.

Seven people lost their lives in the accident, while one person sustained injuries. Six victims died on the spot, while another succumbed to injuries during treatment. Among the deceased were three women, children and a man.

PM Narendra Modi Condoles Loss of Lives

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed deep anguish over the loss of lives in the Khunti mishap.

Conveying his condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, the Prime Minister prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured in the accident.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO), in a post on X, shared his message:

"Deeply pained by the loss of lives in a mishap in Khunti, Jharkhand. I extend my condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. Praying for the speedy recovery of the injured: PM @narendramodi"

CM Hemant Soren Expresses Grief

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident and extended his condolences to the bereaved families.

In a post on X, the Chief Minister said, "The heartbreaking news of seven people losing their lives in a road accident in Karra, Khunti, has deeply saddened me. My deepest condolences go out to all the grieving families who have lost their loved ones in this accident. May Marang Buru grant peace to the souls of the departed and give their grieving families the strength to bear this sorrow."

The tragic accident has left the local community mourning, while condolences from the Prime Minister and the Chief Minister have been conveyed to the affected families.
