Mumbai, 1st Sep, 2025: Popular television and film actress Priya Marathe passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after a prolonged battle with cancer. She was 38 years old.
Priya Marathe was born on April 23, 1987, in Mumbai. She completed her schooling and college in the city. She began her acting journey with the Marathi serial Ya Sukhanoya and later appeared in Char Divas Sasuche.
Her career took a major turn when she played the role of Varsha Satish in the hit TV show Pavitra Rishta. The character earned her wide recognition across India. She also acted in Hindi shows like Kasamh Se, Bade Acche Lagte Hain, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya, and Bharat Ka Veer Putra – Maharana Pratap.
In 2008, she appeared in the Hindi film Humne Jeena Seekh Liya and the Marathi film Ti Ani Itar. She also showcased her versatility in the first season of Comedy Circus. In 2017, she joined Saath Nibhaana Saathiya as Bhavani Rathod, a negative character that displayed her range as an actress.
Priya was also known for her work in Marathi serials like Tu Tithe Me, Swarajyarakshak Sambhaji, Jayastute, and Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe. In 2022, she last appeared on the Marathi game show Aata Hou De Dhingana.
On April 24, 2012, Priya married actor Shantanu Moghe, son of veteran actor Shrikant Moghe. The couple often shared travel memories on social media. Her last post was in 2024 from Amer Fort, Jaipur.
In 2023, she stepped away from the show Tuzech Mi Geet Gaat Aahe due to health concerns. Reports later confirmed that she had been undergoing treatment for cancer. Despite medical efforts, her condition worsened. She breathed her last at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai.
Priya Marathe’s death has left the television and film industry in deep sorrow. Colleagues and fans remember her for her vibrant personality, versatile roles, and memorable performances. She will always be remembered as one of the most loved faces of Indian television.
