Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi on August 9, 2026, paid homage to all those who participated in the historic Quit India Movement, recalling their courage and determination during India’s freedom struggle.
The Prime Minister remembered the participants whose contribution strengthened the movement for independence and inspired the people of India to stand against colonial rule.
He highlighted the leadership of Mahatma Gandhi, under whose guidance the clarion call of the Quit India Movement gave fresh energy to the freedom struggle. The movement reflected the unwavering determination of the people of India to achieve freedom from colonial rule.
The Prime Minister said that the courage of those who participated in the Quit India Movement will continue to inspire every Indian.
The Quit India Movement, launched in August 1942, became a major milestone in India’s struggle for independence and united people across the country in the demand for an end to British colonial rule.
