Farmers Not Registering for CM Kisan, Thousands of Cards at Risk

The government further extended the deadline till January 14

Bhadrak, Odisha, 8th Jan, 2026: Despite repeated appeals by the government, many farmers in Bhadrak district have not registered for the CM Kisan and PM Kisan schemes. For the past four months, officials have been calling and explaining the process to farmers, but awareness remains low. As a result, a large number of CM Kisan cards may be cancelled.

According to the Agriculture Department, around 2.51 lakh CM Kisan cards exist across seven blocks of Bhadrak district. Farmers were asked to register their names at Customer service centres in villages and get their PM Kisan cards with CM Kisan. However, the response has been poor.

The registration process started in August 2015 and was to be completed by October. Later, the deadline was extended to 31st December, 2025. Even after this extension, about 47,097 cards remained unregistered. These included 9,658 in Chandbali, 9,346 in Basudevpur, 7,525 in Bhadrak, 6,957 in Tihidi, 6,622 in Dhamnagar, 4,248 in Bant, and 2,741 in Bhandaripokhari.

Considering the difficulties faced by farmers, the government further extended the deadline till January 14. During the first week, about 10,000 cards were registered. Still, 37,375 cards are pending. Chandbali has 7,584 pending cards, Basudevpur 7,417, Bhadrak 5,937, Tihidi 5,729, Dhamnagar 5,196, Bant 3,416 and Bhandaripokhari 2,096.

Many farmers fear that linking CM Kisan and PM Kisan cards may lead to cancellation of ration cards or restrictions on selling paddy in mandis. They worry about losing food security benefits. However, the Agriculture Department has clarified that there is no such risk. The government has assured that farmers will only benefit from these schemes.

For registration and updates, farmers in Odisha can use the CM Kisan Portal at cmkisan.odisha.gov.in. Through this portal, they can complete e-KYC, check their status using Aadhaar or mobile numbers, and update details for both PM Kisan and CM Kisan schemes.
