Historic achievement:11 Crore Farmer IDs Created

India has achieved the target of generating 11 crore Farmer IDs by October 23, 2026, five months ahead of the March 31, 2027 deadline set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Announcing the milestone, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said the achievement reflects coordinated efforts by the Centre, state governments and field-level officials under the Digital Agriculture Mission.

The Farmer ID provides farmers with a unique digital identity to facilitate easier access to government welfare schemes and agricultural services. The system is expected to reduce paperwork, minimise repeated document verification and improve transparency in the delivery of benefits.

Through Farmer IDs, farmers can access services related to bank loans, Kisan Credit Cards, crop insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana, disaster relief and minimum support price (MSP) procurement. The initiative also aims to reduce duplication and prevent intermediaries from disrupting the delivery of eligible benefits.

According to the Agriculture Ministry, more than six crore farmers have already benefited from Farmer ID-based service delivery. Launched on September 2, 2024, the Digital Agriculture Mission seeks to strengthen digital infrastructure in agriculture and improve coordination between government departments.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan credited the achievement to cooperation between the Central and state governments and called upon farmers to adopt modern technology to access their entitlements more easily. The ministry will continue strengthening the Farmer Registry to support transparent governance and contribute to agricultural development.
