New Delhi, September 18, 2026: Weather conditions are likely to remain active across several parts of India during the next two weeks, from September 17 to 30. Rainfall, thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain are expected in different regions, while the Southwest Monsoon may begin withdrawing from some parts of West Rajasthan around September 19.

Rainfall Forecast: September 17–23

A low-pressure area over Saurashtra and the adjoining Northeast Arabian Sea is likely to weaken soon. Meanwhile, another weather system is expected to develop over the north Andaman Sea around September 18–19. It may intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal during September 21–22 and move towards the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast.

Rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely over parts of Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh during the first part of the week. Heavy rain is possible over some areas, particularly East Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.

Rainfall activity is expected to increase over Odisha, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand and Northeast India. Chhattisgarh may receive heavy rainfall during September 20–23, while Odisha may experience increased rainfall during September 21–23.

Several parts of Maharashtra, Gujarat, Konkan & Goa, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Lakshadweep are also likely to receive rain during the week. Isolated heavy rainfall may occur over some of these areas.

Overall, rainfall across the country is likely to remain below normal during September 17–23.

Forecast: September 24–30

During the second week, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is likely over Northeast and East India. Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of Northeast India may receive isolated heavy rainfall on some days.

Rainfall is also expected over Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka, with isolated heavy falls possible. Other parts of Peninsular India may also receive scattered rain.

The Western Himalayan region may experience light to moderate scattered rainfall on some days. Rainfall activity is expected to be normal to above normal over East and adjoining Central and Peninsular India during the first half of the week.

Overall, rainfall across the country is likely to remain near normal during September 24–30.

Details of the Two-Week Weather Forecast: Rainfall Activity Expected Across Several Parts of India

The weather is expected to remain active across several parts of India during the next two weeks, with rainfall, thunderstorms and isolated heavy rain likely in many regions.

According to the forecast, the Southwest Monsoon may begin withdrawing from some parts of West Rajasthan around 19 September 2026. At the same time, a developing weather system over the Bay of Bengal could bring increased rainfall to Odisha, Andhra Pradesh and parts of Central India during the second half of the first week.

Week 1: 17–23 September 2026

A low-pressure area over Saurashtra and the adjoining Northeast Arabian Sea is likely to weaken within 24 hours.

Another important weather system is expected to develop over the north Andaman Sea around 18–19 September. This system may intensify into a depression over the east-central Bay of Bengal during 21–22 September. It is likely to move west-northwestwards towards the south Odisha–north Andhra Pradesh coast during the following days.

The remnants of this system may subsequently move towards North Chhattisgarh, East Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Bihar during the first half of Week 2.

A cyclonic circulation may also develop over the Southwest Bay of Bengal off the Tamil Nadu coast around the middle of the week. An active Western Disturbance is also expected to affect northwest India.

Several areas are likely to receive widespread or fairly widespread rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning.

·         Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir–Ladakh: Rainfall and thunderstorms are likely on 17 September.

·         Punjab: Widespread rainfall and thunderstorms are likely on 17 September.

·         Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi: Isolated heavy rainfall is possible on 17 September.

·         East Rajasthan: Heavy rainfall is likely during 17–18 September.

·         East Madhya Pradesh: Rainfall activity is expected during 17–18 September.

·         Chhattisgarh: Rainfall is likely during 18–23 September, with isolated heavy rain during 20–23 September.

·         Vidarbha: Rainfall activity is likely during 22–23 September.

·         Andaman & Nicobar Islands: Rainfall is expected throughout 17–23 September, with heavy rainfall possible during 18–20 September.

·         West Bengal and Sikkim: Rainfall is likely during different periods of the week, with isolated very heavy rainfall possible over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on 17 September.

During the second week, scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is expected over several parts of the country.

Light to moderate rainfall may occur over parts of the Western Himalayan region on some days.

Northeast and East India are likely to receive light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall during the week. Isolated heavy rainfall may occur over Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar and parts of Northeast India.

Parts of Konkan & Goa and Coastal Karnataka may also receive scattered to fairly widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy falls possible.

Other parts of Peninsular India may experience scattered rainfall with isolated heavy rain on some days.
