Cyclone Mantho to Bring Heavy Rain and Strong Winds to Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a cyclone warning for several districts of Odisha as Cyclone Mantho intensifies over the Bay of Bengal. The storm is expected to bring heavy rain, strong winds, and rough sea conditions from October 27 to 30.

Rainfall Forecast:

Light to moderate rain is likely over most parts of Odisha on October 27, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places.

Rain activity will increase on October 28 and 29, bringing extremely heavy rainfall (over 20 cm) at a few locations in south Odisha, and heavy to very heavy rainfall in north Odisha.

On October 30, isolated heavy rainfall is expected across the state.

The southern districts—Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Boudh—are likely to face the maximum impact. Coastal and adjoining areas may experience flooding in low-lying regions due to continuous rainfall.

Wind and Sea Conditions:

Squally winds with speeds of 45–55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph are expected along and off the south Odisha coast from October 27 evening, increasing to 60–70 kmph gusting to 80 kmph between October 28 evening and early October 29.

Sea conditions are likely to be rough to very rough, becoming high during this period.

Advisory:

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea till October 29. Those already at sea are urged to return immediately. Authorities have also warned of possible flash floods and landslides in hilly regions.
