New Delhi, September 23: Public sector banks and Regional Rural Banks (RRBs) will remain open on Sunday, September 27, 2026, to help customers meet their banking needs ahead of the proposed nationwide bank strike.
The decision has been taken by the Finance Ministry in view of the three-day bank strike scheduled from September 28 to 30, called by the United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU). The strike follows the weekend holidays on September 26 and 27.
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the operation of bank branches, offices, ATM-linked branches and Currency Chests on September 27.
The government said the move is aimed at ensuring that customers do not face difficulties due to the extended period of bank closures. The government and bank managements have also appealed to the unions to defer the proposed strike.
Banking Services Next Week
Public sector bank branches are expected to remain closed from Monday, September 28, to Wednesday, September 30, if the proposed strike goes ahead.
However, ATMs, UPI and mobile and internet banking services are expected to continue functioning during the strike period.
