A major weather system is developing over the Bay of Bengal, raising the possibility of a cyclonic storm in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and the South Andaman Sea intensified into a well-marked low on Sunday morning, 23 November 2025. It is expected to move west-northwest and strengthen further.
IMD said the system is very likely to intensify into a depression by 24 November over the southeast Bay of Bengal and the adjoining South Andaman Sea. Within the next 48 hours, it may strengthen into a cyclonic storm, prompting close monitoring by weather authorities.
A separate upper-air cyclonic circulation over the Comorin region may also lead to the formation of another low-pressure area around 25 November, adding complexity to the evolving weather pattern. Additional circulations are active over east Bangladesh, southeast Arabian Sea, and northeast Arunachal Pradesh, contributing to widespread rainfall activity.
