Navy Chief Visits Mauritius to Strengthen Maritime Cooperation

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), is on a four-day official visit to Mauritius from August 10 to 13, 2026. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral maritime cooperation and deepen defence ties between India and Mauritius, a valued partner in the Indian Ocean Region.

During the visit, Admiral Swaminathan will interact with senior leaders of the Government of Mauritius and discuss matters of mutual interest, including maritime security, defence cooperation, capacity building and military collaboration.

The engagements are expected to strengthen India-Mauritius cooperation in the maritime domain, enhance operational-level linkages and further consolidate the strategic partnership between the two countries.

India and Mauritius share a close and enduring maritime partnership. The Indian Navy regularly engages with the National Coast Guard through training exchanges, operational interactions, Joint Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) surveillance, port visits and hydrographic surveys.

Both countries also participate in multilateral forums and cooperative initiatives. Mauritius has regularly participated in Indian Navy initiatives such as the Indian Ocean Naval Symposium (IONS), MILAN, International Fleet Review, Goa Maritime Conclave, IOS SAGAR and Exercise AIKEYME. These engagements reflect their shared vision of MAHASAGAR—Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions.

Admiral Krishna Swaminathan’s visit to Mauritius after assuming charge as Chief of the Naval Staff highlights the importance India attaches to its close friendship with Mauritius.
