President’s Colours Presented to Puducherry Police

Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today presented the prestigious President’s Colours to the Puducherry Police, recognising the force’s bravery, hard work, valour, service and dedication.

Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry Shri K. Kailashnathan, Chief Minister Shri N. Rangasamy and several other dignitaries were present at the ceremony.

Addressing the gathering, Shri Amit Shah said that the conferment of the President’s Colours is a testament to the bravery, hard work and dedication of the Puducherry Police. He congratulated the Chief Minister, the Union Territory Government, the police force and the people of Puducherry on receiving the prestigious honour.

He said that the President’s Colours are among the highest honours bestowed upon a disciplined force. The Puducherry Police has been entrusted with maintaining law and order and safeguarding the people across the four geographically separated regions of the Union Territory.

Shri Amit Shah highlighted the force’s service during the COVID-19 pandemic, saying that its commitment and courage while serving people during the unprecedented crisis would remain an important part of its history.

Puducherry’s Indian Identity and Spiritual Heritage

The Union Home Minister described Puducherry as a living symbol of India’s spiritual and cultural consciousness. He said that despite remaining under French rule for a long period, Puducherry had preserved its Indian identity and spiritual vitality.

He noted that the post of Director General of Police was created in Puducherry on October 1, 1963. Since then, the Puducherry Police has played an important role in maintaining internal security and protecting the Union Territory.

New Criminal Laws Focus on Justice

Shri Amit Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the Government has replaced the criminal laws enacted during British rule with three new criminal laws.

He said the new laws focus on providing justice to citizens through technology-enabled and time-bound processes. According to him, the new criminal justice framework is based on three key pillars — Technology, Timeline and Trust.

He reiterated that the Government of India remains committed to the development of Puducherry and to serving its people.
