New Delhi, July 20, 2025 – The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an extensive weather alert forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall across several regions of India from July 20 to 26, driven by active monsoon conditions and multiple low-pressure systems.

Key Rainfall Alerts (Date & Region-wise):

·         Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim, Northeast India: Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected throughout July 20–26. Arunachal Pradesh will witness isolated very heavy rainfall on 20th July, with Assam & Meghalaya experiencing consistent heavy showers through the period.

·         Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand: Anticipate intense rainfall from July 20–24, particularly in Uttarakhand during 20th–22nd and Himachal Pradesh from 21st–23rd.

·         Coastal Odisha: Rainfall activity is expected to increase significantly from July 23 onward.

·         Kerala, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Telangana: Heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to persist through the next 6–7 days. Strong surface winds (40–50 kmph) may also prevail in South Peninsular India.

·         Northwest India:

o    Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan will see varied rainfall from July 20–26.

o    Notable dates include West Uttar Pradesh on 20th–21st, East Rajasthan on 22nd & 26th, and Haryana on 21st–22nd.

·         West India:

o    Konkan & Goa, Madhya Maharashtra (Ghats) will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall from July 20–26.

o    Saurashtra & Kutch on 20th July; Marathwada on 21st July.

·         East & Central India:

o    Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Vidarbha, Jharkhand, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal to experience heavy rainfall between July 20–26.

o    A fresh low-pressure system is likely to form over North Bay of Bengal around July 24, intensifying rain across central and eastern states.

Weather Systems in Play:

·         The monsoon trough remains active, with its western end south of the normal position and eastern end north of the normal.

·         A well-marked low-pressure area persists over West Rajasthan and adjoining Pakistan.

·         Troughs extending across Bihar to Odisha and South Karnataka to Coastal Andhra Pradesh are contributing to widespread rainfall.

Fishermen Warnings (July 20–25):

Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the following regions due to rough sea conditions and strong winds:

·         Arabian Sea: Off coasts of Kerala, Karnataka, Goa, Gujarat, Konkan, and Lakshadweep, as well as the Somalia coast, South Oman, Yemen.

·         Bay of Bengal: Off coasts of Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and North and South Bay regions, including the Andaman Sea and Gulf of Mannar.

The IMD advises residents, local authorities, and travelers to remain vigilant, especially in landslide-prone zones and coastal belts. Continuous monitoring and precautionary measures are strongly recommended to ensure public safety.
