In a devastating industrial tragedy, at least 37 workers lost their lives following a massive explosion at the Sigachi Pharma Company in Pasamailaram Phase 1, Sangareddy district of Telangana on Monday. Several others have been critically injured as rescue operations continue at the site.

The explosion occurred when a reactor unit at the chemical factory blew up, triggering a fire that rapidly engulfed the premises. Five workers died on the spot, while others succumbed to injuries later in the hospital. As of Tuesday morning, the official death toll stood at 37, with the possibility of it rising further.

Following the blast, 11 fire tenders were rushed to the scene to douse the flames and control the spread of toxic fumes. Emergency personnel worked through the night to locate survivors and recover bodies from the debris.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, who visited the site along with Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha, Labour Minister Vivek Venkataswamy, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu, and Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, announced a compensation of ₹1 crore each to the families of the deceased workers. He also declared ₹10 lakh compensation for those seriously injured.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed deep grief over the loss of lives and extended his condolences to the bereaved families. The Prime Minister announced an ex-gratia payment of ₹2 lakh each to the next of kin of the deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund.

The Sigachi Pharma Company, known for producing microcrystalline cellulose for over four decades, is now under intense scrutiny. A safety investigation has been launched, and the state government has assured strict action based on the findings of the preliminary inquiry.

Meanwhile, the incident has sparked political controversy. Opposition leaders, particularly from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS), have accused the state government of negligence. KT Rama Rao, senior BRS leader, criticized the ruling Congress government for its delayed response and said, "If this were a Miss World Pageant, the entire Congress cabinet would have shown up."

A special forensic team from Osmania General Hospital has been deployed at the site to assist in post-mortem examinations and DNA sampling. Autopsies on 15 bodies have been completed so far, but only four victims have been identified as of now.

As the state mourns the tragic loss of lives, both the government and rescue teams remain engaged in relief, investigation, and identification efforts to bring closure to grieving families and ensure accountability.
