Water Stops Students from Going to School

Bhadrak, Odisha 6th Sept, 2025: In the name of reforming school and mass education, the government has already spent crores of rupees and announced several schemes for the development of rural road connectivity. However, none of these measures seem effective in any state of India. People are still deprived of basic needs such as proper road connectivity. During the rainy season, many village roads become submerged, leaving residents with no alternative. As a result, they are forced to use waterlogged roads for daily activities, often wading through knee-deep water.

One such plight has been reported recently in Bhadrak district, Odisha, where stagnant water has been lying on the road for years. This is not a problem of a single day or season, as shown in the image. In front of a local resident’s house, water remains knee-deep. The family has been facing serious difficulties, isolated from the rest of the world due to water logging around their home.

An old man was seen taking his grandchild to school through knee-deep water. It is not just one family or individual—hundreds of households in the village are facing the same problem. Villagers have expressed strong anger against the administration for failing to act.

Children use this road daily to reach the Anganwadi and Panijharia Primary School. There is constant fear of snakebites and even drowning. While some parents take longer alternative routes to ensure safety, many children are unable to attend school. The stagnant water has also led to health issues, with students suffering from fever and skin diseases. A student recently appealed to the Chief Minister on social media, urging immediate action.

The villagers of Rautapada, under Bhatpada Panchayat in Chandbali block of Bhadrak district, have been struggling with this issue for a long time. Despite repeatedly informing the Sarpanch and local administration, no steps have been taken yet. The residents are demanding a permanent solution, including proper drainage and elevation of the village road. They have warned of protests if the matter continues to be ignored. So far, the administration has not responded.
