Cyclonic Conditions Likely Over Bay of Bengal | Heavy Rainfall & Weather Warnings Issued

A cyclonic situation is likely to develop over the Bay of Bengal as multiple weather systems intensify, according to the latest forecast issued on 24 November 2025.

 

A well-marked low-pressure area over the Strait of Malacca and adjoining south Andaman Sea moved over Malaysia and the nearby region on Monday morning. It is expected to move west-northwestwards and intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. The system may further strengthen into a cyclonic storm over the south Bay of Bengal during the next 48 hours.

 

Another upper air cyclonic circulation persists over the Comorin area, and a fresh low-pressure area is likely to form over Comorin, southwest Bay of Bengal and Sri Lanka around 25 November. This is also expected to become more marked in the following days.

 

Under the influence of these systems, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over several regions.

Tamil Nadu may receive heavy rain from 25–27 November and very heavy rain on 24th, 28th–30th.

Kerala & Mahe are expected to see heavy rainfall from 24–26 November, while Lakshadweep may experience heavy rain on 24 November.

Andaman & Nicobar Islands are likely to receive heavy rain between 25–29 November, with very heavy rainfall from 26–28 November.

Coastal Andhra Pradesh & Yanam may get heavy rain on 29 November and very heavy rain on 30 November.

 

Thunderstorms with lightning are also forecast for Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, along with gusty winds up to 40–50 kmph in many areas over the next six days.

 

Dense fog is likely during the night and early morning of 25 November in isolated pockets of northwest West Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.

 

 Wind and Sea Condition Warnings

 

Squally winds ranging from 35–55 kmph, gusting to 65 kmph, are expected across the Andaman Sea, Bay of Bengal, Comorin region, Arabian Sea, and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Kerala, Sri Lanka and Andhra Pradesh at different intervals from 24–30 November.

 

Sea conditions will be moderate to rough, becoming rough to very rough in several regions, especially over the Andaman Sea, Southeast and Southwest Bay of Bengal, and Andhra Pradesh coast between 25–30 November.

 

 Fishermen Advisory

 

Fishermen are strictly advised not to venture into:

 

 South Andaman Sea till 27 November

 Southeast Bay of Bengal from 25–28 November

 Southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar, Comorin area and Tamil Nadu–Puducherry–Sri Lanka coasts till 29 November

 Westcentral Bay of Bengal and Andhra Pradesh coast from 27–30 November

 Southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep, Maldives and Kerala coast from 24–27 November

 

Those already at sea are urged to return to the nearest coast immediately.

 

Authorities have advised close monitoring of updates as the system moves and intensifies over the Bay of Bengal in the coming days.
