Kolkata, 6th July: The nation paid rich tributes to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on his 125th birth anniversary, remembering his contributions as an educationist, parliamentarian, founder of Bharatiya Jana Sangh and a strong advocate of national unity.
Dr. Mukherjee was born on July 6, 1901. A distinguished scholar, he became one of the youngest Vice-Chancellors of Calcutta University and later served as Minister for Industry and Supply in independent India's first government. He founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh in 1951 and remained committed to the cause of national integration until his death in Jammu and Kashmir in 1953.
Vice President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan paid floral tributes to Dr. Mukherjee at the Vice President's House. He described him as a visionary statesman and nation-builder who dedicated his life to the unity and integrity of the country. He said Dr. Mukherjee's ideals continue to inspire generations and remembered his contribution to education, politics and democratic values.
Across the country, programmes were organised to mark the occasion. The Ministry of Culture, in association with the West Bengal Government, organised commemorative events in Kolkata as part of the two-year official celebration of Dr. Mukherjee's 125th birth anniversary. Union Home Minister Amit Shah attended the programmes, including the foundation ceremony for a 125-foot statue and tribute events at Dr. Mukherjee's ancestral residence and Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan.

Chandbali Pays Tribute to Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee on His 125th Birth Anniversary
Chandbali (Odisha), July 6: Joining the nationwide celebrations marking the 125th birth anniversary of Bharatiya Jana Sangh founder Dr. Syama Prasad Mukherjee, a youth and student conference was organised at Biju Smriti Bhavan in Chandbali. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, social workers, farmers and local residents despite intermittent rain.
The programme was organised under the leadership of Chandan Rout, local councillor and District President of the BJP Yuva Morcha. Yuva Morcha member Sarthak Nayak presided over the conference.
Noted columnist Purna Chandra Mallick attended the programme as the chief guest, while Moto College Principal Bibhuti Bhushan Biswal delivered the keynote address. Among those present were BJP National Executive Member Purna Chandra Pani, State Yuva Morcha Coordinator Lalu Prasad Kadam, Chandbali Block Development Officer Sanjeev Mohapatra, BJP District General Secretary Kamalakant Sutar, District Kisan Morcha President Ashok Roul, Minketan Biswal, social worker Shashikant Das and several other dignitaries.
Addressing the gathering, the speakers paid tribute to Dr. Mukherjee's legacy, highlighting his patriotism, contributions to education and unwavering commitment to national unity. They encouraged the youth to draw inspiration from his ideals and actively participate in nation-building and social service.
Hundreds of students, BJP Yuva Morcha members, intellectuals and prominent citizens attended the conference, making the event a grand success. Despite the inclement weather, the turnout reflected the enthusiasm of the participants and the significance of the occasion.
Speaking at the conclusion of the programme, District BJP Yuva Morcha President Chandan Rout thanked the guests, students, volunteers and local residents for their participation and support in making the celebration successful.
