CNB WORLD TIMES
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), India, has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report concerning the death of a 57-year-old woman who was allegedly raped during a diagnostic test at Civil Hospital, Panipat, Haryana, on August 16, 2026. The woman died while undergoing treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Science, Rohtak, on August 18.

The NHRC said that, if the reported facts are true, the incident raises serious concerns regarding violation of human rights. The Commission has issued notices to the Haryana Chief Secretary and the Superintendent of Police, Panipat, seeking a detailed report on the matter within two weeks.

According to the media report published on August 19, the terminally ill woman had visited the Civil Hospital for medical treatment, where doctors prescribed X-ray and CT scan examinations. It was alleged that the machine operator sexually assaulted her inside the CT scan room and threatened her against disclosing the incident.
