In a major boost to agricultural exports, the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has facilitated the first export of fresh mangoes from Jharkhand to the United Kingdom.

A consignment of 1.5 metric tonnes of fresh Amrapali mangoes was flagged off from Kolkata on June 4, 2026. The mangoes were sourced from Beura Farmer Producer Company Ltd., an all-women Farmer Producer Company based in Bano Block of Simdega district, Jharkhand.

The shipment is being exported by JGB Agrofresh Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, to London, United Kingdom.

The export became possible after APEDA organized an Export-Oriented Capacity Building Programme in Simdega district on May 5, 2026. The programme trained Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs), Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), and farmers on export procedures, quality standards, and international market opportunities.

Following the training, APEDA connected Beura Farmer Producer Company with the exporter, helping local farmers supply export-quality mangoes for overseas markets.

The initiative has enabled women farmers to directly participate in the export value chain and earn better prices for their produce than those available in domestic markets.

Officials said the export is expected to encourage farmers in the region to adopt better cultivation practices, improve post-harvest management, and meet international quality standards.

Jharkhand's favourable climate supports horticulture cultivation, and the state's Amrapali mangoes are known for their quality and taste. With this shipment, Jharkhand has joined the list of Indian states exporting fresh fruits to global markets.

APEDA continues to support agricultural exports through market development, farmer training, quality improvement initiatives, and export promotion programmes, with special focus on women-led and tribal farmer groups.
