Among the Longest in India: ICAT Certifies 15-Metre Sleeper Bus

CNB WORLD TIMES

Manesar, Haryana: The International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) has issued its first compliance certificate for a 15-metre (approximately 49-foot) multi-axle sleeper bus, marking a significant development in India's passenger transport sector.

The certificate, issued under AIS-119 and AIS-153 and applicable provisions of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules (CMVR), has been awarded to Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd. for its 15-metre multi-axle sleeper bus.

The certification marks an important milestone in the testing and approval of one of the longest permissible bus configurations in India's passenger transport category.

Certification for Advanced Sleeper Bus

The certificate was formally handed over by Shri Saurabh Dalela, Director, ICAT, to Shri Naresh Kumar Yadav, Managing Director, Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd., in the presence of senior ICAT officials.

Designed for long-distance passenger travel, the bus incorporates features aimed at improving structural strength, emergency safety, fire safety, passenger movement and travel comfort.

The vehicle is available in two configurations:

·         Fully sleeper variant: 42 berths

·         Hybrid sleeper variant: 21 berths and 42 seats

The bus has been tested and certified against applicable requirements relating to vehicle safety, structural integrity, passenger accommodation and comfort, in accordance with relevant automotive standards and CMVR provisions.

Focus on Passenger Safety and Compliance

The certification under AIS-119 and AIS-153 highlights ICAT's capability to test and certify advanced passenger vehicle configurations while helping manufacturers meet prescribed regulatory and technical requirements.

Speaking on the occasion, ICAT Director Shri Saurabh Dalela said the certification demonstrates the organisation's technical capabilities in testing advanced passenger vehicles and reflects its focus on passenger safety, regulatory compliance and technological advancement.

Shri Naresh Kumar Yadav, Managing Director, Synaty Automotive Pvt. Ltd., also welcomed the certification, saying the achievement would support the company's efforts to develop safe, reliable and comfortable solutions for long-distance passenger transportation.

A Milestone for India's Passenger Transport Sector

ICAT provides testing, certification and homologation services to the Indian automotive industry. The latest certification adds to its contribution towards developing safer, compliant and technologically advanced passenger vehicles.

The 15-metre bus represents one of the longest permissible passenger bus configurations in India. However, it should not be confused with the world's longest bus-type vehicles. For example, the DAF Super City Train, which operated in Kinshasa, Congo, was reported to measure about 32.2 metres (105.6 feet) and consisted of a tractor unit pulling two trailers.

The ICAT certification is therefore significant for India's regulated passenger vehicle segment, particularly for the growing demand for comfortable and safety-focused long-distance bus travel.
