Reykjavik, June 26: The Embassy of India in Reykjavik, in collaboration with the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), organized the first-ever Indian Mango Promotion Events in Iceland on June 24 and 25, 2026.

The events were held in Reykjavik on June 24 and Akureyri in North Iceland on June 25. They showcased four premium Indian mango varieties—Dasheri, Chausa, Langra, and Kesar—to promote India's agricultural exports and strengthen economic ties between India and Iceland.

Indian Ambassador R. Ravindra highlighted the unique qualities of India's world-famous mangoes and emphasized the growing opportunities for exporting Indian mangoes to the Icelandic market.

Speaking at the event, Sveinn K. Einarsson, Director of Trade Agreements at Iceland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs, said the India–EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) could create new opportunities for increasing imports of Indian mangoes into Iceland.

Ólafur Stephensen, Secretary General of the Icelandic Federation of Trade, noted that interest among Icelandic businesses in India is growing and expressed optimism about expanding imports of Indian agricultural products, especially mangoes.

Second Secretary Anisha Tomar gave a presentation on India's mango industry, highlighting that India is the world's largest producer of mangoes. She also explained the Government of India's efforts to promote mango exports through quality assurance, improved market access, and international promotional campaigns.

The events attracted importers, diplomats, business representatives, and officials from Iceland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Visitors sampled the four premium mango varieties, which received wide appreciation for their rich taste, aroma, and quality.

The promotion served as an important platform to strengthen commercial partnerships, increase awareness of Indian agricultural products, and deepen economic cooperation between India and Iceland.

Strong Export Potential

Iceland currently imports most of its mangoes from Thailand, Brazil, Cambodia, Ghana, and Peru. In 2025, the country imported mangoes worth approximately USD 3.3 million, with around USD 1 million coming from Thailand.

According to interactions with local consumers, Icelanders have a strong preference for mangoes, particularly in smoothies, desserts, and fruit salads. This growing demand presents significant opportunities for Indian exporters to expand their presence in the Icelandic market.

The successful promotion events mark an important step in introducing premium Indian mangoes to Iceland and enhancing bilateral trade in agricultural products.
