Jabalpur, 21st June, 2026: President of India Droupadi Murmu participated in a mass yoga demonstration in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, on the occasion of International Yoga Day.
Addressing the gathering, the President extended her greetings to yoga practitioners across the world. She said that International Yoga Day celebrates India's rich tradition that has guided humanity towards a healthy, balanced, and meaningful life. She described yoga as a valuable gift of India's cultural heritage to the global community.
President Murmu said yoga is a powerful medium that connects individuals with themselves, society with nature, and humanity with universal consciousness. She noted that in a world facing many challenges, yoga can help promote peace, harmony, balance, and collective well-being.
The President highlighted that the United Nations declared June 21 as the International Day of Yoga in 2014 following India's initiative. Since then, yoga has gained greater global recognition, and millions of people around the world have adopted it as part of their daily lives.
Speaking about this year's theme, "Yoga for Healthy Ageing," she said the theme emphasizes the importance of yoga in helping senior citizens lead healthy, active, self-reliant, and dignified lives. She added that yoga supports physical fitness, mental peace, and emotional well-being throughout life.
President Murmu also stated that the Government of India is continuously promoting yoga through education, research, training, and public awareness programs. She appreciated the efforts of various organizations working to spread yoga across the world.
Urging people to make yoga a part of their daily routine, the President said that regular yoga practice can contribute to building healthy individuals, families, societies, nations, and ultimately a healthier world.
