New Delhi, June 6: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk joined with other hundreds of protesters at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday, demanding the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan over alleged irregularities in examinations and recruitment tests.
The protest, organised by supporters of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), drew school students, college students, competitive examination aspirants, parents, and social activists from different parts of the country.
Addressing the gathering, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke accused the government of focusing on the organisation’s social media activities instead of addressing concerns related to examination irregularities and recruitment-related issues. Protesters raised demands for greater transparency, accountability, and reforms in the education and examination systems.
Throughout the day, large crowds assembled at the protest site. Many participants expressed concerns over repeated controversies surrounding examinations, uncertainty in result declarations, and the lack of accountability from authorities. Several protesters also voiced disappointment with both the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition parties, alleging that issues affecting students and young people were not receiving adequate attention.
The demonstration concluded peacefully. According to Delhi Police officials, six individuals were detained to prevent a possible confrontation between two groups during the protest.
Meanwhile, CPI State Secretary Binoy Viswam condemned an alleged attack on CPI National Secretary Annie Raja and other leaders who had visited the protest site in solidarity with the demonstrators. In a statement, he described the incident as shocking and called for branch-level protests across Kerala.
Mr. Viswam alleged that the Centre was attempting to suppress protests instead of taking action on concerns raised regarding examination-related controversies. He said the public would not forgive such actions.
Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray also expressed support for the protesting youth. In a message shared by party leader Sanjay Raut on social media, Mr. Thackeray said the government should listen to the voices of young people demanding accountability over examination-related lapses.
He stated that lakhs of students had been affected by examination controversies, including the NEET paper leak issue, and urged the government to address their concerns seriously. Mr. Thackeray said the protest at Jantar Mantar reflected growing frustration among the country's youth and should not be ignored.
The protest remained peaceful and concluded without any major incidents.
