New Delhi, June 11: Vice-President Shri C. P. Radhakrishnan has urged aspiring journalists to uphold truth, objectivity, and public interest while performing their professional duties. He said that India needs journalists who are intellectually honest, socially sensitive, technologically skilled, and committed to democratic values.

Addressing the closing ceremony of the month-long internship programme organized by Sansad TV for postgraduate students of Indian Institute of Mass Communication at the Vice-President's residence, Shri Radhakrishnan highlighted the important role of media in a democracy.

He said the media has the power not only to shape public opinion but also to influence the development of a nation. He encouraged young journalists to contribute to the vision of a developed India (Viksit Bharat) by 2047 through responsible and objective reporting.

The Vice-President noted that India is attracting global attention because of its young population, technological progress, and strong democratic institutions. He urged media professionals to present India's development journey with integrity and factual accuracy.

Expressing concern over sensationalism in today's competitive media environment, Shri Radhakrishnan stressed that credibility should be built on truth, accuracy, and public interest rather than popularity or attention-seeking content. He called upon journalists to maintain high professional standards and ensure responsible reporting.

Speaking about the growing influence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), he said technology can be a useful tool for research and fact-checking, but editorial decisions must continue to be guided by human judgment. He also warned against the dangers of misinformation and deepfake content.

The Vice-President emphasized the need for inclusive journalism that reflects the realities of people living beyond major cities. He said journalists should focus on the aspirations, achievements, and challenges of communities across the country to provide a complete picture of India.

He appreciated Sansad TV for providing practical training opportunities to journalism students and praised its professionals for mentoring the interns.

Several dignitaries attended the event, including Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh, Rajya Sabha Secretary-General P. C. Mody, Sansad TV CEO Amit Khare, Information and Broadcasting Secretary Chanchal Kumar, and IIMC Vice-Chancellor Pragya Paliwal Gaur.
