Visakhapatnam, June 21 – The 11th International Yoga Day was marked with grandeur and unity in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, where Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the celebrations in the presence of state and national dignitaries. The event, themed “Yoga for One Earth, One Health,” underscored India’s deepening commitment to global wellness through its ancient practice of yoga.

In his keynote address, Prime Minister Modi extended heartfelt greetings on the occasion and hailed yoga as a “global symbol of unity and wellness.” Reflecting on the origins of the International Day of Yoga, he recalled India’s historic proposal at the United Nations to designate June 21 as Yoga Day—an initiative that received unprecedented support from 175 countries. “It was a rare moment of global solidarity for human well-being,” he said.

PM Modi lauded Andhra Pradesh for its large-scale yoga outreach campaign, YogAndhra Abhiyan, which saw participation from over two crore people. He commended the leadership of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, and Minister Nara Lokesh for their efforts in connecting diverse communities and promoting wellness through yoga.

“Yoga connects us. It is a journey from Me to We, aligning with India’s age-old philosophy of collective welfare and harmony,” PM Modi said, elaborating on this year’s theme. He emphasized how yoga strengthens the bond between individual health and planetary health, particularly vital in today’s climate and health crises.

In a powerful appeal to the global community, the Prime Minister called for the adoption of ‘Yoga for Humanity 2.0’—a movement where yoga becomes a guiding tool for peace, sustainability, and international cooperation. “In an era marked by conflict and unrest, inner peace through yoga can guide global policies and foster harmony,” he stated.

PM Modi also highlighted India’s efforts to integrate yoga with modern medicine, citing ongoing research at AIIMS and the use of digital platforms like the Yoga Portal to reach a wider audience. He also mentioned the ‘Heal in India’ initiative, envisioning India as a global hub for holistic health and wellness.

The event was graced by several dignitaries, including Andhra Pradesh Governor Syed Abdul Nazir, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, Deputy CM Pawan Kalyan, Union Ministers K. Rammohan Naidu, Prataprao Jadhav, Chandrashekhar, and Bhupati Raju Srinivas Verma, among others. A large gathering of yoga enthusiasts and citizens from across the state also participated in mass yoga demonstrations.

As the sun rose over the shores of Visakhapatnam, the city echoed with the spirit of yoga, unity, and health, reaffirming India’s enduring legacy as the birthplace and global torchbearer of yoga.
