Ayush Services Proposed for Military Hospitals

The Union Government has proposed expanding Ayush treatment services across Military and Field Hospitals to strengthen preventive, promotive and holistic healthcare for defence personnel.

Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Ayush and Minister of State for Health & Family Welfare, Shri Prataprao Jadhav, has written to Defence Minister Shri Rajnath Singh, recommending the establishment of Ayush Outpatient Departments (OPDs) and Ayush-based treatment facilities in Military and Field Hospitals across the country.

In his letter, Shri Jadhav highlighted the significant contribution of the Armed Forces Medical Services in providing healthcare to soldiers serving in challenging operational environments. He said that while the Armed Forces already have a strong modern medical system, integrating India's traditional systems of medicine can further enhance preventive care, lifestyle management, rehabilitation and overall well-being.

The Minister noted that Ayush facilities are currently available only in a limited number of Defence institutions, leaving many Military and Field Hospitals without dedicated Ayush services. He suggested that expanding these services would improve access to evidence-based traditional healthcare and complement the existing medical infrastructure.

Shri Jadhav emphasized that integrating Ayush into the Armed Forces healthcare system would create a more comprehensive, patient-centric model while promoting India's traditional medical heritage within the public healthcare framework.

He has requested the Ministry of Defence to consider establishing Ayush OPDs and treatment facilities in all Military and Field Hospitals. The Ministry of Ayush has also expressed its readiness to provide technical support, professional guidance and institutional cooperation, including signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), to facilitate the initiative.

The proposed collaboration reflects the Government's commitment to promoting an integrated healthcare system and extending the benefits of Ayush to the nation's Armed Forces personnel.
