New Delhi, 2nd May, 2026: Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah, along with Union Minister of Communications Shri Jyotiraditya Scindia, will launch a nationwide mobile-based disaster communication system on May 2, 2026.
The system has been developed by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) in collaboration with the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Its aim is to send timely and important disaster alerts to citizens across India.
NDMA has already implemented the Integrated Alert System (SACHET), developed by the Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT). This system works on international standards and is active in all 36 States and Union Territories. It sends emergency alerts through SMS to people in specific areas.
So far, more than 134 billion SMS alerts have been sent in over 19 Indian languages during disasters such as cyclones, weather warnings, and other emergencies.
To make alerts faster, the government has introduced Cell Broadcast (CB) technology along with SMS. This system sends messages instantly to all mobile phones in a specific area at the same time. It will help during emergencies like earthquakes, tsunamis, lightning strikes, gas leaks, or chemical hazards.
As part of the launch, test messages will be sent to mobile phones in capital cities, including Delhi and NCR. These messages will be in English, Hindi, and regional languages.
The test message will inform citizens about the new alert system and clearly mention that no action is required. People are advised not to panic after receiving the message, as it is only a test.
The following message will be sent to mobile handsets.
“India, launches Cell Broadcast using indigenous technology, for instant disaster alerting service for its citizens. Alert citizens, safe nation. No action is required by the public upon receipt of this message. This is a test message.”
“भारत द्वारा स्वदेशी तकनीक का उपयोग करते हुए अपने नागरिकों के लिए त्वरित आपदा चेतावनी सेवा हेतु सेल ब्रॉडकास्ट का शुभारंभ। सचेत नागरिक, सुरक्षित राष्ट्र। इस संदेश की प्राप्ति पर जनता से किसी प्रकार की कार्रवाई की अपेक्षा नहीं की जाती है। यह एक परीक्षण संदेश है।”
