Bhubaneswar, 1st February, 2026: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi launched Odia science reference books for Class XI students at Lok Seva Bhawan. The books have been prepared by the School and Mass Education Department.

The reference books are available in Odia language. They cover important subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. These books will help students understand science concepts easily in their mother tongue.

Earlier, such science reference books were not available in Odia. To address this gap, the state government has decided to supply 10 to 20 copies of each book to every higher secondary school. The books will be kept in school libraries so students can read them freely.

The Institute of Odia Studies and Research will ensure that the books are also available for sale at district headquarters. Around 1.20 lakh students from nearly 700 higher secondary schools across Odisha are expected to benefit from this initiative.

The government has also announced plans to prepare Odia science reference books for Class XII students in the next phase. This step aims to make Odia reference materials available from primary education to higher and technical education

Officials said the move supports the state government’s goal of making education more inclusive, accessible, and focused on students—especially those from rural and semi-urban areas..

Several ministers and senior officials attended the launch event. The initiative is seen as a major step towards strengthening mother-tongue-based education and promoting science learning in Odisha.

The launch ceremony was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo; Revenue Minister Suresh Pujari; School and Public Education Minister Nityananda Gand; Higher Education Minister Suryavanshi Suraj; Skill Development and Technical Education Minister Sampada Chandra Swain; Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan; Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena; Urban Development Minister Krishna Chandra Mohapatra; Food Supplies Minister Krishna Chand Patra; Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia; the Minister of State for Cooperation Pradeep Bal Samanta; Chief Secretary Anu Garg; Development Commissioner D.
