New Delhi: The Indian Navy has received ‘Amini’, an indigenously designed and built Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW SWC). Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, delivered the warship to the Navy on November 5, 2026.

The ship has been designed and constructed by GRSE according to the classification rules of the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).

‘Amini’ is among the largest Indian naval warships powered by waterjets. It is equipped with modern lightweight torpedoes, indigenous rocket launchers and advanced sonar systems. These systems will help the Navy detect and respond to underwater threats.

The new warship will strengthen the Indian Navy's anti-submarine warfare, coastal surveillance and mine-laying capabilities.

The ship is named after Amini Island in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep. It also carries forward the legacy of the former INS Amini, a Petya III Class Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette that was decommissioned in 2002.

The delivery of ‘Amini’ marks another important step towards strengthening India's indigenous defence manufacturing sector. The ship has more than 80 per cent indigenous content, supporting the Government's vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat.

The project also highlights India's growing ability to design and build advanced naval warships domestically while reducing dependence on imported defence equipment.
