Anti-Cancer Drug Prices to Drop from November 9; Consumers to Save ₹3,502 Crore Annually

CNB WORLD TIMES

The prices of several anti-cancer medicines will come down from November 9, 2026, following the government's decision to regulate trade margins on these drugs. The move is expected to provide major financial relief to cancer patients and their families, with estimated annual savings of ₹3,502.31 crore.

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has capped trade margins at 30% on the Maximum Retail Price (MRP) of 137 anti-cancer drugs. The decision was taken based on the recommendations of an expert committee constituted by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

According to the NPPA, 76 pharmaceutical companies have reported revised prices for 1,225 formulations covering 121 anti-cancer drugs. Out of these, 1,031 formulations have reported a reduction in MRP. Around 600 brands have recorded price reductions of more than 50%, while the highest reduction is 96.45%.

The remaining 10 to 15 identified drugs that have not yet been launched in India will also come under the trade margin regulation when they enter the market.

The government said the move aims to make essential anti-cancer medicines more affordable and accessible to patients. The notification issued on October 17, 2026, will remain in force until further orders. However, manufacturers can increase prices annually as permitted under the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013, while maintaining the maximum permissible trade margin of 30%.

Revised Price Lists and Consumer Complaints

All retailers, dealers, hospitals and medical institutions must prominently display the revised MRP lists on their websites and premises. State Drug Controllers will monitor compliance by manufacturers, dealers, hospitals and medical institutions.

Consumers can check the revised prices through the Pharma Sahi Daam mobile application and the NPPA website: www.nppa.gov.in. They can also report violations through the following channels:

  • Email: monitoring-nppa[at]gov[dot]in
  • Helpline: 1800-11-1255
  • Postal Address: Deputy Director, Monitoring, NPPA, 3rd Floor, YMCA Cultural Centre Building, 1 Jai Singh Marg, New Delhi – 110001.

The revised prices are expected to reduce the financial burden on cancer patients and improve access to essential cancer treatment.
