CNB WORLD TIMES
Rourkela, October: The Steel City of India, Rourkela, has come alive with the colours, lights and traditions of Sharadiya Durga Puja. Known as ‘Mini India’ for its cultural diversity, the city is celebrating the festival with great enthusiasm. Surrounded by the scenic hills and mountains of Western Odisha, Rourkela attracts visitors from different parts of the country during the Dussehra holidays.
109 Durga Puja Mandaps Add to the City’s Festive Charm
With the arrival of Goddess Durga, rituals and worship have begun at 109 locations across the city. Various Durga Puja committees have made elaborate arrangements to welcome devotees and visitors. Beautiful clay idols of Goddess Durga have been installed at different pandals, creating a spiritual and festive atmosphere throughout Rourkela.
The city’s festive beauty has been enhanced by magnificent decorative arches, or toranas, and colourful illuminations. From the Sector areas to Civil Township and Fertilizer Township, streets and neighbourhoods are glowing with attractive lights and decorations.
Theme-Based Pandals Become Major Attractions
This year, several Puja committees have created unique theme-based pandals. The designs range from royal palaces to beautifully crafted temple structures, offering visitors a memorable festive experience.
Among the major attractions are the ‘Pari Mahal’ (Fairy Palace) in Sector-16 and a Rajasthani-style royal palace in Sector-1. Other eye-catching attractions include a Swaminarayan temple, a grand wheel-themed palace featuring a throne room, and a Chandrodaya (moonrise-themed) temple.
Artisans from West Bengal have worked day and night to bring these imaginative designs to life. Their craftsmanship and creativity have transformed the pandals into spectacular displays of art and decoration.
Rourkela Welcomes Visitors for Dussehra
Although air travel is less commonly used by visitors travelling to Rourkela, the city receives many tourists from different states through rail and road networks during the festive season.
With grand pandals, dazzling lights, traditional rituals and a lively atmosphere, Rourkela has once again become a major attraction during Durga Puja. The celebrations reflect the city’s cultural diversity and the devotion of its people, making the festival a memorable experience for residents and visitors alike.
