New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has extended his best wishes to Skyroot Aerospace ahead of the launch of Vikram-1, India's first privately developed orbital launch vehicle.
The Prime Minister described the mission as a historic milestone in India's space journey. He said the launch opens a new chapter for the country's space ambitions and reflects India's growing strength in innovation, technology and entrepreneurship.
Vikram-1 is Skyroot Aerospace's first orbital-class rocket. The maiden mission, named "Mission Aagaman," is being launched from the First Launch Pad at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC), Sriharikota. The launch was rescheduled from 11:30 AM IST to 12:05 PM IST on July 18, 2026.
The 24-metre-tall, four-stage rocket has an all-carbon-composite structure and is designed to carry payloads of up to 350 kg into Low Earth Orbit (LEO). The mission marks India's entry into a new era of private-sector orbital launch services.
Prime Minister Modi said the mission highlights the talent, determination and entrepreneurial spirit of India's youth. He added that the government's space sector reforms are creating new opportunities for innovation and enterprise.
The Prime Minister also appealed to citizens, especially young people, to watch the historic launch and extend their support to the Skyroot Aerospace team.
