Cuttack, 23rd August 2025: The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has commissioned a modern Automatic Signalling System on the 83-km Cuttack–Paradeep section of the Talcher–Paradeep Freight Corridor under the Khurda Road Division, marking a major step in the modernization of railway infrastructure in Odisha. The section, which plays a crucial role in passenger connectivity and freight movement to Paradeep Port, will now benefit from faster, safer, and more efficient train operations.

According to officials, the automatic signaling system will increase line capacity and reduce train headway, allowing more services to run in less time. The technology minimizes human dependency, thereby enhancing safety and operational reliability. Real-time monitoring will also improve punctuality, asset utilization, and service efficiency.

Railway authorities said the project would boost economic growth by ensuring smoother freight movement to and from Paradeep Port, a key hub for industrial and maritime trade.

The system comes with several advanced technical features:

* Dual multi-section digital axle counters for accurate train detection

* Integrated power supply for uninterrupted functioning

* LED signal lamps ensuring high visibility in all weather conditions

* Dataloggers for detailed event monitoring

* Video Display Units at all stations for real-time supervision

Safety has been further strengthened with 19 Level Crossing Gates interlocked with the new signaling system, while all non-interlocked gates have been removed. The section has also been divided into multiple UP and DOWN subsections to facilitate smoother traffic handling.

With this upgrade, the Cuttack–Paradeep stretch is now equipped to handle growing passenger and freight demands more effectively. ECoR reiterated its commitment to safety, modernization, and regional development, ensuring world-class railway connectivity for Odisha’s future economic progress.
