India's Armed Forces Brief on Operation Sindoor: Focus on Counter-Terrorism and Air Defence Success CNB WORLD TIMES | New Delhi | May 12, 2025 On May 12, 2025, India's top military officials held a press conference in New Delhi to discuss Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7 in response to the April 22 terrorist attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 Indian tourists. Air Marshal AK Bharti, Director General of Air Operations, emphasized that the operation targeted terrorist infrastructure, not Pakistani military or civilian sites. He stated, "Our fight was against terrorism and the terrorists. Accordingly, on May 7, we targeted only the terrorist sites. However, it is unfortunate that the Pakistan Military chose to support the terrorists and turned it into a personal conflict." The Indian Air Force (IAF) reported that over 100 terrorists were killed during the strikes, which focused on camps of groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba, Jaish-e-Mohammad, and Hizbul Mujahideen. Following the operation, Pakistan launched drones and missiles at western parts of India. Air Marshal Bharti confirmed that India's multi-layered air defence system successfully intercepted these attacks, including Chinese-origin PL-15 missiles and Turkish drones. All Indian pilots involved in Operation Sindoor returned safely. Air Marshal Bharti affirmed that all military bases and systems are fully operational and prepared for any future contingencies. The press conference also highlighted the performance of India's indigenous air defence systems, which effectively neutralized multiple waves of drones and unmanned combat aerial vehicles employed by Pakistan. In the aftermath of the operation, both India and Pakistan have agreed to a ceasefire. However, tensions remain high, and the international community continues to urge restraint and dialogue to prevent further escalation.
